2011 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Kevin Furlong Raritan High School
(Fairleigh Dickinson)
Kevin Furlong is everything you could ever ask for in a
player, student and even more so a person. The youngest
of four children, Kevin lives an exemplary life both on
and off the floor each and every single day which is a
real tribute to his parents Diane and Tom. His team and
individual accomplishments are numerous and his respect
for his family and teammates is even more profound.
Kevin is an original member of our Central Jersey
Hawks team that started play in the spring of 2002. From
day one, his work ethic and throw back style of play
were impressive to those who watched him. He was even
more impressive to those of us who were fortunate enough
to coach him on almost a daily basis. His energy and
enthusiasm made our teams and his teammates better game
after game, year after year.
Kevin’s efforts
started paying off for him last summer when the numerous
college coaches started calling to inquire about his
talents for football and basketball at the next level.
During his senior football season while playing
defensive back at Raritan High School, Kevin was named
the MSG Defensive Player of the Week for the entire Tri
State area after the first weekend of play. He was also
named captain and led his team to an overall 6-4 record.
Basketball season brought even more accolades for
Kevin and his Raritan Rockets teammates. As the starting
point guard and true team leader, Kevin lead the Rockets
to the Matawan Christmas Tournament Championship, a A
Central Division title, were crowned Shore Conference
Champions and made it to the Group 2, Central Jersey
final.
For his own efforts, Kevin was named to
the All A Central First Team, 2nd Team All Shore, 3rd
Team All Shore Media, 2nd Team All Monmouth County and
2nd Team All State in Group 2.
After having
numerous offers from the gridiron to the hardwood, Kevin
has chosen FDU Madison as his next stop where he will
major in Business and make an immediate impact on the
men’s basketball team. We still believe that even after
an extensive recruiting effort, FDU does not fully
understand what they have landed in this honor student
and talented athlete from Hazlet, NJ. Many coach for
years hoping that they can encounter just one young man
with the magnitude that a Kevin Furlong brings to the
table on a daily basis. Many leave years of coaching
without ever finding that real special player. We were
extremely fortunate to have had Kevin for nine years
running.
Kevin Furlong is without a shadow of a
doubt the absolute perfect candidate to receive this
prestigious award.

Missy Repoli St. John Vianney High School
(Colgate)
It is both an honor and a pleasure to recommend
Missy Repoli for the Rick Conover Scholarship. We have
had the pleasure of coaching Missy for over 10 years.
When we first started our team in 2002, Missy was just 8
years old, and only a practice player. She came to
practice unfailingly knowing she was not going to play
in a game. The following year through sheer
determination, Missy earned a spot on the regular roster
which she maintained for the next 9 seasons. She helped
set a standard by which all of our girls played and
lived by – 100% effort in all life’s endeavors. Here is
a list of her outstanding individual accomplishments:
- 3 time All Shore selection - 2 time selection
All-Monmouth County - 3 time selection All-Division
- 2009 Shore Conference FT Shooting Leader 90.2% -
2011 2nd Place Shore Conference FT Shooting 89.5% -
4th in Career Scoring at SJV – 1,480 total points
While this is without question a very impressive
list of achievements for Missy, the successes that her
teams enjoyed tell an even more astonishing story. Here
are two lists that detail the incredible records of both
the Central Jersey Hawks and SJV HS:
2002 - 2011
Central Jersey Hawks
- 4 State Championships, 3
2nd place finishes - AAU National Championships,
13th, 7th, 9th places - US Junior National
Championship-17U Silver- 2009 - AAU National Classic
Division Champion- 2010
2008 - 2011 St. John
Vianney High School
- 4 Non-Public A State
Championships - NJ State Tournament of Champions 2009
– First Place - NJ State Tournament of Champions 2nd
place 2010 - NJ State Tournament of Champions
Semi-Finalist 2008, 2011
As successful as Missy
has been on the basketball court, she has performed at
the same high level in the classroom. She is a member of
both the French Honor Society and the National Honor
Society. Missy’s GPA is 4.1 which ranks in the top 15%
of her class.
Missy possesses some vital
characteristics which are required for success. Her
combination of intensity and confidence contributed to
her outstanding performances in the clutch. Her refusal
to quit and inability not to give 100% spilled over to
her teammates, and resulted in her becoming one of the
leaders on our team.
We were delighted to have
Missy join us for the early part of this AAU year as her
willingness to help teach the new Hawks our system
seriously steepened the learning curve for the rookies,
and made our job that much easier. Her encouragement of
the younger players was beneficial to the new team’s
chemistry as well. We will miss our Missy very much and
wish her great success at prestigious Colgate University
where she has received a 4 year scholarship.
Missy is a person of great integrity and strong
character, a loyal teammate and a fiery competitor, and
why we feel she is a perfect candidate for the Rick
Conover Scholarship for 2011.
