2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Chris Jetter
Mater Dei High School
(Brookdale College)

Chris Jetter

Chris Jetter is an original Hawk. As a fourth grader, Chris donned the blue and white for the first time…..and he never took them off. He was there through the excitement of our championship seasons as well as the frustration of the lean years. Chris is a Hawk.

In junior high, Chris scored over 1,000 points for St. Joseph’s of Keyport. Chris continued his career as the starting point guard for Mater Dei High School for all four years. There he led the Seraphs to three consecutive winning seasons in division play and three berths in the New Jersey Parochial B State Tournament.

Chris adapted to numerous roles with the Hawks. He fueled the team with his energy coming off the bench as sixth man; he worked hard to break into the starting line-up as a shooting guard; and eventually became our captain and starting point guard. Although our team was under-sized, Chris’s competitive nature and work-ethic always helped us to over-achieve, even against the toughest of opponents.

Chris was named to numerous all-tournament teams including an “Honorable Mention” in the Albany Gym Rat tournament.

For his loyalty to his team and the organization, for his pure love of the game of basketball, and for his determination to succeed against any odds, Chris is well-deserving of the Rick Conover scholarship award. Chris will continue his education and basketball career as a freshman at Brookdale College.

Lauren Clarke
Colts Neck High School
(Brown University)

Lauren Clarke

When Lauren Clarke first steps out on a basketball court, she looks like any other 5’6” guard. However, once the ball is thrown in the air, you can see that there is nothing ordinary about this player. Blessed with an unmatched ability to understand the game and an intense competitive spirit, Lauren has put together a basketball resume that anyone would envy:
- 3 time 1st Team All- Shore selection
- 3 time selection All- Monmouth County
- 4 time selection All- District
- Colts Neck H.S. all- time leader in points (1772), free throws made, 3 pointers made
- Her #10 retired by her High School

While her individual accomplishments are impressive, team success is what ultimately defines a player:

2004- 2009 Central Jersey Hawks

- 1 State Championship, three 2nd place finishes
- 3 Top 25 finishes at Penn State
- 1 US Junior National Championship, one 2nd and one 3rd place finish

High School

- NJ State Tournament of Champions Finalist
- Group IV Champions
- 2 time Central Jersey Group IV Sectional Champs
- Shore Conference Championship

I have had the pleasure of coaching with and against Lauren for the past eight years. As an opponent, she is nearly impossible to stop with her ability to shoot the basketball or drive to the basket with equal effectiveness. As a teammate, she provides quiet leadership and is a calming influence during the most intense parts of a game. Even though she possesses the ability to score, she also led our team in assists and can rebound with anyone.

Lauren is one of five children and spends much of her time playing big sister to her siblings. Despite the time she puts into the family, Lauren has been able to excel academically- graduating High School with a 4.2+ GPA and in the Top 10% of her graduating class. After evaluating offers from a number of colleges Lauren has decided to attend Brown University in September.

Lauren continues to be involved with the Hawks by helping me coach the 9U girls’ team that just won the State Championship. The girls look forward to seeing her at practices as she provides my players with a positive role model.

Lauren’s basketball, academic and personal achievements make her the perfect candidate for the Rick Conover Scholarship.
